So tomorrow, for a mandatory study tour, I will be going to Edinburgh, Scotland.
Excuse me.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh!!!!!!!!!!!
"What?" you say. "You just get to traipse off to another country for class? Is there even any real studying going on?"
Why, yes on both counts, actually, thank the Lord! I have this one class called "Britain Today", which has to do with the politics of Britain, past and present. I am LOVING this class, and loving learning about this land I'm living in .I could go on for ages about the stuff I'm learning. But what is especially relevant at this time are the current British events that I get to witness with my very eyes! You see, in a few months time, Scotland is
going to vote on whether or not it should leave the United Kingdom and become its own country. Can you imagine? An independent Scotland? There are musings as well of Northern Ireland taking a leaf from their book, and joining with the Republic of Ireland. And Wales is already in talks to establish their own
Parliament, separate from that of England. Scotland becoming an independent country could be the beginning of the unraveling of the United Kingdom itself!
Or that's the dramatic take on it, at least.
Anyhoo, I am thrilled that I get to be in these countries as history is taking place. I can't imagine the advantage to being able to talk with Englishmen and Scotsmen about their hopes and reservations for the future of the United Kingdom. I am just so incredibly thankful for this opportunity.
Well. I have to wake up in three hours to catch my train. I look forward to sharing some Scottish adventures!
